Within the overall narrative about place and time, my paintings explore the symbiotic relationship between creation and destruction. Urban and natural landscapes alike are in a constant cycle of creation, decay and renewal. Man-made structures are erected, crumble, and are adapted or rebuilt; in nature, everything that grows eventually decays and creates new life. My paintings explore the continuity of change – whether nudged along by Mother Nature or human interference – and suggest that beauty is both imperfect and impermanent.

Based in landscapes that are born of memory, I attempt to balance abstraction and representation while rooting my paintings in the physical dimensions of space. It is my hope that each suggests something hidden or elusive about a place through a series of assimilated layers. I am concerned less with traditional beauty than with how an experience of place at a point in its evolution creates a memory that goes much deeper than a snapshot impression.
